The Problem

Over 1.1 billion people do not have access to safe drinking water; making it one of the leading international health challenges. Cholera, diarrhea, viral hepatitis A, dysentery and typhoid fever are a few of the many diseases spread though contaminated water. According to the world Health Organization (WHO), 80% of all diseases in the devoloping world are caused by unsafe drinking water.
Children are most often the victims of these ailments . Diarrheal diseases are the second most serious killer of children under the age of five. The WHO has reported: “correct management of diarrhea could save the lives of up to 90% of children who currently die from the disease.”

Contaminated water adds to the tremendous burden of the world's poorest people, causing misery and death where the struggle for life is the hardest. Athough boiling unsafe water may prevent these diseases, it consumes scarce natural resources in the world's poorest regions. This burning of wood also contributes to deforestation and air pollution.

In response to this dire need, Deveoloping World Solar has tested, manufactured and is distributing water pasteurizers, that can be installed nearly anywhere in the world, to provide safe drinking water.
